When you get off the train and exit the terminal...you see this.

and narrow side streets. most leading to water or to a water bus station.

Small dogs were nearly everywhere, this poor old guy was ambling around more slowly than his old owner.
Of course Venice is known for their elaborate masks. most stores banned you from taking photos.

The Grand Canal
We sat along the canal and enjoyed some presecco wine (like champagne but nicer) and watched as the sun went down and the shops turned their lights on.
